    Job Description

    - The Senior Environmental Specialist will provide support to the Discipline Lead - Environment in providing expert direction on conventional discharges to the client teams dealing with site clearance and development, Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Permitting. Acting as IC for technical areas of conventional environmental permitting (water and air).

    - Support Lead Environmental Specialist on issues related to conventional discharges.

    - Ensure that the E&WM engineering design is compatible with the Conventional BAT case

    - Identify, document and manage all of E&WM engineering design team interfaces regarding discharges

    - Carry out Optioneering on assigned E&WM engineering design aspects of the project

    - At an inpidual level, manage and apply safe systems of work, with due regard for all Health and Safety legislation and best practices

    - Develop client procedures that comply with the requirements of the client Nuclear and Environmental Safety Principles and Criteria

    - Ensure that the standards demanded by the environmental permit requirements are met in the delivery of the assigned E&WM engineering designs

    - Contribute to the production of environmental risk assessments

    - Implement Quality procedures relevant to assigned work

    - Work with suppliers to ensure licensing and permitting requirements are met as required

    - Review documents supplied by client and other suppliers

    - Provide guidance and support to other members of the team, including supervision of contractors (as required).

    Skills & Experience

    - Degree in either a Science or Engineering background preferred

    - Achieved, or working towards, Professional Accreditation

    - Experience of working in a highly regulated industry

    - Experience of managing and co-ordinating assigned activities and projects

    - Experience of obtaining formal acceptance of design output (e.g. through permissioning process)

    - Experience providing environmental compliance advice in construction/commissioning/operation

    - Knowledge of relevant environmental legislation

    - Ability to be Security Cleared

    - Ability to learn and deliver value in a changing and growing organisation

    - Evidence of ability to operate in line with our company values; safety, courage, integrity, collaboration and inspiration

    - Knowledge of relevant national and international design standards.

    - Nuclear industry sector knowledge; REPs, Safety Assessment Principles and Site License/Permit conditions.

    - Understanding of the relationship between Design and the Safety Case/BAT case

    This role will support the implementation of the Operations Reporting Plan, and providing Environmental and Regulatory Operational Compliance oversight for the Exploration Drilling Program.

    The Operations Reporting Plan will address Regulatory and Environmental condition and commitment oversight, tracking and reporting for company's 2015-2016 Exploration Drilling Program.

    - Operational reporting to the Canada - Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board (CNSOPB);

    - Management of Environmental and Regulatory Conditions and Commitments for the Exploration Program;

    - Environmental and regulatory support during offshore drilling operations;

    - Data management and document control for operational reporting compliance;

    - Face-to-face engagements with regulators, including, but no limited to: the CNSOPB, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and Canadian Wildlife Service;

    - Interface with technical and Regulatory staff to manage and collect information and results for Regulatory reporting, compliance and condition management; and

    - Support and manage external contractors in their collection and reporting of compliance information.

    Skills & Experience

    - Diploma or degree in the field of Environmental Sciences, Political Sciences, Health and Safety, or other relevant experience.

    - Expert in the field of oil and gas Environment/Regulatory/Health & Safety, with extensive experience. Demonstrated experience supporting offshore oil and gas development in Atlantic Canada preferred.

    Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate the following skills:

    - Knowledge of the Nova Scotia offshore area, as well as Regulatory processes and requirements related to marine or offshore oil and gas operations.

    - Experience in document control and compliance reporting.

    - Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interface with a wide variety of contacts including senior management, regulatory agencies, and third party vessel owners/operators.

    - Attention to detail demonstrating high quality work.

    - Strong computer skills, particularly in Excel and Word.

    - Self-starter, possessing the ability to work well in teams and remotely.
