In a remarkable feat, the Orlen Group has commenced production at the Tommeliten A field on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) nearly six months ahead of the originally planned date. This achievement signifies a major advancement in Orlen's strategic energy initiatives. The field is expected to contribute an impressive 17.66 billion cubic feet (0.5 billion cubic meters) of natural gas annually to Poland, facilitated by the Baltic Pipe pipeline.
Orlen's involvement is notably through its subsidiary, PGNiG Upstream Norway AS (PUN), which holds a substantial interest in the Tommeliten A Unit. The field boasts considerable reserves, estimated between 120 million and 180 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMBoe), with Orlen claiming a significant share of 50 to 76 MMBoe. Furthermore, it is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing Poland's energy security.
The early launch of production by almost six months showcases the Orlen Group's competence in successfully executing upstream projects. This accomplishment is a testament to Orlen's dedication to strengthening Poland's energy independence and ensuring a consistent and secure energy supply. Tommeliten A is a part of the Orlen Group's broader strategy to elevate gas production on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, with the goal of reaching 211.9 billion cubic feet (6 billion cubic meters) annually by the end of 2030, up from 123.6 billion cubic feet (3.5 billion cubic meters) recorded last year.
Orlen has already secured more than 282.5 billion cubic feet (8 billion cubic meters) of the Baltic Pipe's annual capacity, with plans to maximize the use of this transport route to transport company-produced gas volumes. This strategic approach will significantly contribute to Poland's increased energy security, as the gas produced in Norway is supplied to Poland through the Baltic Pipe. The company envisions that it could account for up to 75 percent of the Baltic Pipe's booked capacity by 2030.
PUN is actively engaged in production activities across 18 fields and holds interests in 91 licenses. Presently, the company's oil and gas reserves on the Norwegian Continental Shelf exceed 346 MMBoe, reinforcing its position among the top ten companies in Norway in terms of the scale of hydrocarbon resources and oil and gas production. The successful early production launch at the Tommeliten A field is a testament to Orlen's dedication to advancing energy security and enhancing the country's energy infrastructure.
