Breaking CHC Helicopter Declares Emergency Over Peterhead

Published in Oil Industry News on Wednesday, 27 November 2019

Graphic for News Item: Breaking CHC Helicopter Declares Emergency Over Peterhead

A CHC S92 Helicopter returning to Aberdeen from Sumburgh has declared an emergency while flying near Peterhead

The helicopter started squawking on emergency frequency 7700 just after 6pm this evening. The helicopter which was over land when it declared the emergency is now flying over the sea and looks to be making progress towards Dyce heliport. Other aircraft have been put into a circling patern to allow the helicopter a priority landing.

Update: 18:30 - The helicopter has made a safe landing at Dyce. A BA flight from London a Eastern Airways flight from Humberside and a Loganair flight from Newcastle were all put into a holding patern while the helicopter made its emergency landing.

If you were on the helicopter and know the reason for this emergency landing please contact Oil and Gas People in confidence news@oilandgaspeople.com

Oil and Gas People will continue to post updates on all declared emergencies until helicopter companies honour their 2014 commitment to the Helicopter Safety Steering Group to report the reasons for all RTB incidents to the general public. This was originally agreed to be reported on the Step Change in Safety website but once the heat was lifted after the Super Puma incidents the practice was stopped without any reason or announcement.
