Job Description

Title: Geoscience Catalogue Data Manager – Clean-up/Migration Project

Location: UK - Surrey

Job Status: Contract – 3 months initially

Start Date: ASAP

Interview Date: ASAP

Open To: EU Nationals or UK work permit holders

Job Overview: A leading supplier of IT solutions seeks a Geoscience Catalogue Data Manager to support the migration of data from an eSearch physical asset management catalogue system to a newer in-house PPDM based database model. The role is based at their Oil Operator client. Applicants are invited with a good understanding of asset management catalogues combined with the ability to write SQL scripts. The Contract is initially for 3 months but could be extended.

The project is a data migration from Schlumberger’s physical asset management solution “eSearch” to an internal Global Product Classification (GPC) system. There are already extraction scripts/methods for eSearch, so the data is/will be in an intermediate GPCI (Intermediate) system for clean-up before mapping to a PPDM model. This PPDM mapping has already commenced.

Within the migration the focus includes clean-up of the catalogue content - as an example this may involve mapping Unique Well Identifiers (UWI) to the Unique Borehole Identifiers (UBI) being used within the new database / model within the updated PPDM system.

The role requires no subsurface application effort but an understanding of catalogues and a good understanding of oil and gas data types. Manipulating the data will require SQL (preferably on Azure) and ideally python experience.

Responsibilities: Reporting to Project Manager this role encompasses many functions including:
• Overview:
• Work with the User Community to identify the data, workflows required and fully understand the remit of role.
• Source the data – from the eSearch physical asset management catalogue or from eXceL files.
• Provide clean up and mapping of the data in the in the intermediate system (GPCI).
• Load the data into the PPDB (i.e. GPC) system
• Practicalities of the role:
• You will define the “Setup” - how to run tests. Run data analytics – data scripting.
• Conduct ad-hoc improvement to tests
• Evaluate reports across all catalogues
• Communicate and Review Reports
• Implement Report Outcome (depends on source - may update xls for the regions..)
• Upload Regional Catalogues (78 Catalogue-Data Type combinations)
Feedback in to the development of Catalogue Quality Tests

Preferences: The successful candidate will have:
• Previous experience of catalogue management, clean-up, or/and migration projects essential.
• Experience working with PPDM or/and eSearch highly desired.
• Some understanding of Subsurface data essential – seismic section, well log etc.
• SQL scripting essential
• Good understanding of Excel spreadsheets essential.
• Python scripting highly desired.
• Good general data analytic skills essential.
• An ability to extract, and refine data sets essential.
• Hands on experience with data sourcing, manipulation and enrichment essential.
• Excellent stakeholder management – ability to keep all informed as required.
• Ability to articulate the value proposition for the above to technical and non-technical audiences, gain buy in and provide support across all levels within IT&S and commercial stakeholders.

Package: A competitive Day Rate is on offer dependent on skills and experience.

Please upload a Cover Letter in support of your application, should outline a) why you feel you may be particularly suited to this position (i.e. relevant skills/experience and education) b) your availability and c) your salary expectations.
