Job Description

A global oil and gas company is seeking to appoint a Lead Investigator to sit within its corporate EHS function. This highly visible role will involve significant travel (up to 50%) globally, visiting operational sites where major incidents have occurred. This will involve thoroughly and knowledgeably investigating serious incidents, gathering all relevant information and delivering expert incident investigation reports. It is expected that candidates will be degree educated in an engineering or technical discipline and be a certified safety practitioner. Although oil and gas experience is desirable, it is possible that candidates from similar high risk industries will be considered. Only candidates with substantial experience within incident investigation with a demonstrable track record of delivery will be considered.

    As the Health and Safety Advisor you will be working as part of the onshore project team to: • Advise, influence and monitor best practice projects safety management. • Provide effective coordination of Contractor safe works methodologies and client interface activities will be a primary focus along with auditing, monitoring, reviewing, reporting and record maintenance duties. This includes: o facilitating positive influence on procurement and contract split strategies. o providing review and feedback on the suitability of pre-construction information. o providing support to the project team to facilitate positive supplier competence assessment through the tendering process. o the project management team structure and membership, supervision levels and coordination effort requirements to facilitate continual effective safety management; o Continually monitoring and proactively advising on the ongoing suitability of key safety documentation including Construction Phase Plans, Emergency Response, Traffic Management Plans etc. relevant to project and role characteristics. o Reviewing of project monitoring and measuring to identify risks to the project. o Site access control and security particularly in relation to preventing unauthorised access to project sites. • Providing support on decisions regarding risk v programme v cost. • Assist in decisions on safe methods of engineering control and construction work. • Advice on safety measures which are ‘reasonably practicable’ considering safety, schedule, quality and cost. • Making decisions and advise on the safety management competence of suppliers. • Advice on risk management effectiveness of coordination effort across suppliers – particularly construction contractors. It is estimated that the project will start in the 2nd quarter of 2017 and conclude in the 2nd quarter of 2018. The base location will be in Ipswich with travel in the UK and Europe as required.
