MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

  • Responsible for day to day legal advice and support to line managers.
  • Supporting the head of Legal in the management of bought in legal services.

POSITION IN ORGANISATION

  • Reports to the Head of Legal

SCOPE OF JOB

  • Professional Authority on a range of aspects of UK and relevant foreign jurisdictional law as they affect the company
  • Provision of legal services and training to the company and in developing the legal function.

  • Authority to commission legal work from contracted legal firms

QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • Holds a practicing certificate from the Law Society or is admitted to the English Bar.
  • Some post qualification legal experience, which should include experience in commercial (contract) law in an international environment, drafting & negotiating commercial contracts including multi-jurisdictional issues, and in-house experience.
  • Experience of face to face negotiations with customer's representatives and their legal teams.
  • Experience of operating and influencing at senior management level, providing legal advice and advising on range of legal issues in high pressure environments to tight deadlines.
  • High level of personal integrity.

DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Professional Authority

  • Provision of authoritative legal advice to the line managers and their teams.
  • Representing the company in discussions with legal teams of company partners, customers and suppliers; advising on a range of contracts and commercial and operational legal issues including areas such as commercial, procurement, IP, regulatory compliance, shipping / transport.
  • Assisting Head of Legal in keeping abreast of good legal practice and developments in all relevant aspects of changes in law, advising on consequent impact to the company operations and recommending and implementing training for employees where relevant.

Provision of services

  • Delivery of a high quality professional legal service for the company.
  • Responsible, within a defined framework, for the commissioning, cost control and management of external legal services for the company.
  • Deputies for the Head of legal as required.
