Key Requirements
Education
Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering or a relevant engineering degree required.
Experience
Essential
• At least three years experience supervising a R&D laboratory or testing environment, preferably for valve products.
• Minimum six years of product testing, troubleshooting and assembly experience within the control valve market.
• Experience developing and implementing test procedures, equipment manuals, and/or documentation associated with equipment testing.
• Successful experience in facility and materials planning as well as managing equipment needs.
• Experience scheduling work-loads.
• Significant understanding and interpretation of design drawings.
Job Description
The Research and Development Lab Manager manages, coordinates, and provides strategic planning of activities concerned with the research and development of new or improved concepts, ideas, and applications for Valve products, including testing and engineering research and development programs. This professional is responsible for the management of the lab, accuracy of lab results, training and certifying of staff, providing a safe work environment, managing work-loads and ensuring compliance with technical and customer standards.
Key Accountabilities (includes, but not limited to the following)
• Oversees the research, identification, evaluation, and initial development of new products.
• Manages testing schedules and prioritizes experiments by level of importance.
• Leads laboratory safety initiatives and ensures that equipment is operated safely and within operating parameters.
• Responsible for the development and maintenance of lab policies and procedures.
• Plans and formulates aspects of research and development proposals, such as objective or purpose of projects, applications that can be utilized from findings, cost of projects, and equipment and manpower requirements.
• Oversees the accuracy of the laboratory staff to ensure accountability for quality of tests and test results.
• Keep engineering management advised of work status, work load, problems, and progress as related to work assignments.
• Performs laboratory tests or other laboratory work using conventional and computerized machines and work aids within prescribed standards.
• Develop test procedures, equipment manuals, and documentation associated with equipment tested.
• Establishes and maintains data collection, monitoring and analysis equipment of the R&D laboratory.
• Researches, evaluates, recommends and implements the inventory of lab equipment instruments and supplies including the management of preventative maintenance and repairs.
• Reviews source control drawings, specification control drawings and other applicable specifications to determine requirements and/or feasibility of product.
