Job Description

  • Champion Worker Safety Programs
  • Oversee site contractor fabrication, construction, and hookup work activities during Execution Phase
  • Serve as member of the Project Team (PT) when project assigned
  • Provide the interface between the work face and the Construction Site Manager or Construction Site Lead
  • May serve as the lead the company representative at sub-sites where the Construction Site Manager or Construction Site Lead typically does not reside
  • Provide construction core competency expertise when assigned to the function
  • Ensure good communications and relations with the contractors
  • Champion on-site safety awareness and safe performance with contractor and among Project Team members
  • Assist contractor in early site construction planning/construction planning prior to site mobilization
  • Serve as day-to-day interface with contractor and craft labor during the Construction Phase, providing a focus on safety, quality, cost, and schedule
  • Provide safety monitoring/leadership
  • Interface with QA/QC personnel to address quality issues/progress
  • Provide oversight of contractor's materials management/verification systems
  • Ensure compliance with specifications, procedures, and plans
  • Monitor workforce productivity and progress relative to schedule
  • Monitor environmental compliance, as required
  • Interface with contractor for field level changes, e.g., scope, costs, etc.
  • Verify post-site arrival of procured equipment and engineering equipment
  • Provide on-site support to the Construction Site Manager/Construction Site Lead as required
  • Provide support to pre-commissioning/mechanical completion/systems completion as required
  • Coordinate Quality Audits and other site surveillance activities
  • Perform other duties as requested
  • Help develop Early Career Professionals

Skills & Experience

  • Technical degree
  • Previous site experience

OR

  • High School/Technical Training
  • Extensive construction experience

This is a contract position.

    Objective
    Develop and apply a process for optioneering and selection of disposal system concepts at appropriate stages of the implementation programme. Provide input to, and respond to outcomes from, the Upstream Optioneering project and disposability assessments. Co-ordinate and manage optioneering studies to investigate the options available for the transport and disposal of a range of waste types in a geological disposal facility for various geological settings. Specify and co-ordinate work to monitor alternative waste management options in compliance with Strategic Environmental Assessment/Environmental Impact Assessment Directives (SEA/EIA).

    Deliverables
    The job holder will develop and apply a process for optioneering of the disposal system at appropriate stages of the implementation programme. * Gain internal and external (including regulators) support for the process, seeking formal reviews as required. Provide input to, and respond to outcomes from, the 'upstream optioneering' project and disposability assessments. * Identify work, relevant to the waste lifecycle, being undertaken within disposal system optioneering studies and disposability assessments, and ensure this work is coordinated with the Upstream Optioneering work package. * Ensure that developments within the upstream optioneering work, and within waste strategies are appropriately considered within the disposal system optioneering work package.     Essential/Desirable Skills
    * Good first 1st degree in relevant subject. * Chartered status membership (or working towards it) of a relevant professional institution. * Thorough understanding of the requirements for the geological disposal of radioactive wastes and materials. * Knowledge of the range of radioactive wastes and materials for disposal in the UK. * Proven ability to produce clear, concise written technical work that is appropriate for a range of audiences. * Ability to direct contractors who are recognised experts in their fields * Influencing skills required, together with the ability to communicate at all levels. * A pragmatic, problem-solving approach, in particular the ability to identify the key issues and distinguish the essential from the 'nice to have'. * Willingness to work as a team member and learn new skills. * The ability to work on parallel tasks, often to tight deadlines
