A global operator is currently searching for a Senior VSP Geophysicist to work from their offices in France and provide Geophysical expertise in VSP techniques within the non-conventional geophysics unit, to their subsidiaries across the world. The unit is in charge of designing, supervising, processing and interpreting all Gravity, Magnetics, passive or microSesimic, Electromagnetic and VSP surveys, conducted by the subsidiaries to explore new prospects.
Being the senior geophysicist in charge of the VSP techniques, you work within the Non-conventional geophysics unit, your main responsibilities include:
- Preparing budgets for future acquisition surveys, in liaison with the subsidiaries.
- Advising geophysical management at headquarters and in subsidiaries, and recommending innovative acquisition and processing solutions.
- Conducting VSP feasibility studies and preparing technical specifications and survey planning, in line with Total¿s HSE standards.
- Preparing invitations to tender, negotiating and selecting contractors in liaison with the headquarters and subsidiary units concerned.
- Preparing VSP acquisition operational plans, organising start up technical audits for acquisition surveys and supervising operations ¿ observing quality, deadline and cost requirements.
- Organising and developing the software and computer environment giving access to the state of the art techniques in modeling, processing and interpretation of VSP data.
- Doing and /or Supervising VSP data processing and interpretation.
- Participating in the integration of results and joint interpretation with existing geophysical (usually 3D seismic) data and with other disciplines (geology and reservoir engineering, drilling and completion)
- Exploring and internally promoting new VSP equipments, techniques and methodologies. Participating in R&D internal developments or collaborative works with external organisations. Publishing and/or presenting activities and results at various international conventions.
- Develop and disseminate VSP knowledge and skills throughout the company by internal presentation and training course activities.
- Evaluating future needs and monitoring market developments through conventions, publications and close relations with geophysical contractors.
- Training and mentoring junior geophysicists.
To apply for this role my client is looking for an experienced VSP (processing, modeling and interpretation) specialist. You will have: -
Hands-on experience of VSP acquisition possibly including design of permanent arrays or down hole sources, field experiments and field staff supervision will be highly appreciated.
- Experience of shale gas field development or hydro fracturing monitoring or field depletion monitoring is wellcome.
- Practical experience in the use of VSP for reservoir characterisation would be appreciated.
- Practical knowledge in Geomechanics would be appreciated.
Due to the location EU citizens or equivalent would be looked upon favourably but International candidates can be considered with the right expertise.

The Role You will be playing a leadership role in the development geology discipline. This will involve the support the evaluation of new and mature field development opportunities from the UK portfolio. Additionally you will support the exploration and business Development group to evaluate acquisition opportunities and monitor the company's operated and non-operated portfolio. This will of course involve understanding the subsurface reservoir distribution, in-place hydrocarbons and technical reserves of our exploration discoveries to facilitate future development planning. Additionally you will provide geological capability throughout the field development planning process including assessment of the geological framework, static reservoir modelling, probabilistic in-place volumes. This role will also include attending 3rd party meetings, visiting data rooms and writing field development plans/technical memorandum/investment proposals. You will also manage outside consultants and interview and mentor new staff as well as to ensure that they are trained in the correct areas to complete their jobs. Experience Required You should have 10+ years experience and ideally this will be previously gained working in an operator.
