Talisman Fail to Carry Out 'Safety-Critical' Work
Talisman oil and gas firm failed to carry out more than 180 safety-critical jobs on time on a North Sea platform.
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigators found 182 late work orders when they inspected Talisman's Clyde platform in November.
The HSE did not highlight any immediate safety concerns, but issued the company with an improvement notice for failing to follow its own guidelines on approving delays to overdue work.
An HSE spokeswoman said: “The notice requires Talisman to follow their own risk management procedures to either carry out safety-critical work orders before the specified finish date or formally approve them for delay. The notice relates to this failure to follow process.
"If during the inspection any immediate safety concerns had been identified, then enforcement action requiring immediate attention would have been taken."
Talisman are required to comply with the HSE's improvement notice by May.
A spokeswoman for the oil firm added: "We received an improvement notice from the HSE regarding our processes for approving the deferral of maintenance on safety-critical items.
"We have made substantial progress in addressing the issues raised and are well ahead of the target for complying with the terms of the notice."
On Tuesday, the firm revealed plans to cut up to 300 North Sea jobs. All planned redundancies, which include 100 employees and 200 contractors, are believed to be compulsory.
