Statoil has decided to drop the option for the riserless, well intervention vessel, the Island Wellserver.

According to Offshore.no, Statoil can no longer find work for the vessel.

The Island Wellserver is owned by Island Offshore and it is under contract with Statoil until the end of October.

Island Offshore Managing Director, Håvard Ulstein, said to Offshore.no that this is yet another result of cost-cutting measures in the company.

The Island Wellserver was built in 2008 by Aker Yards Langsten. It can accommodate 97 people.

The vessel is used for light well intervention services and associated work, construction work, subsea installation work, securing of wells, IMR work, supply duties.
