The OSDU Data Platform standards serve as an open-source, technology-agnostic data platform for the energy industry, guided by the OSDU Forum, which governs its legal framework and community work. The collaborative effort between Shell, AWS, and Schlumberger underscores a shared long-term commitment to the OSDU Data Platform, emphasizing the importance of standardization, open source principles, and enhanced data accessibility for the industry.
Through this collaboration, the companies aim to streamline subsurface workflows, providing engineers with improved access to valuable data. Edwin Verdonk, Shell's EVP for Development and Subsurface, expressed Shell's commitment to supporting and contributing to the OSDU Forum Community, aiming to accelerate the adoption of cloud solutions and facilitate access to the OSDU Data Platform.
Rakesh Jaggi, SLB's President for Digital and Integration, highlighted the commitment to openness and the deployment of SLB solutions with AWS, offering customers increased flexibility in selecting their preferred cloud provider. The collaboration is expected to usher in a new era of application and data interoperability, delivering an enhanced user experience at reduced operational costs.
In addition to this collaboration, SLB recently unveiled a carbon storage screening and ranking solution, intended to facilitate better decision-making in site selection for carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) projects. Frederik Majkut, SLB's Senior Vice President of Carbon Solutions, emphasized the significance of ensuring both safety and economic viability in storage sites to effectively drive CCUS growth and contribute to a low-carbon energy ecosystem.
