Pemex Abkatun Alpha Platform Fire Out No Spill Reported
Pemex has informed that the fire that broke out on an Abkatun Alpha platform yesterday has been extinguished.
Offshore Energy Today yesterday reported that Pemex-operated Abkatun Alpha platform located in the Bay of Campeche caught fire spurring evacuation of 301 workers.
Sadly, four workers have died as a result of the incident; one was identified as Pemex employee, one as a contractor for the oil services company Cotemar and, according to Pemex, two more have not been identified.
Sixteen workers were reported injured, four of them work for Pemex and twelve for the companies that provide services on the platform. In total, 45 workers received some type of medical care.
Pemex further notes that the fire did not cause an oil spill into the sea given that there was only a seepage which is being taken care of by a specialised vessel.
Pemex CEO Emilio Lozoya said that the incident will have a minimal impact on production since this is a processing rather than production platform.
