The once popular OilCareers portal switched off earlier this week in a move that saw it merge with American site Rigzone. The move by Dice Holdings who bought Rigzone in 2010 has proven unpopular with both clients and candidates with dozens taking to social media to vent their frustration.

The merger sees Oil and Gas People left as the only major UK headquartered oil and gas job portal after Oil and Gas Job Search was bought by US Company Career Builder in 2013.

Speaking on the news, ex oil and gas contractor and Managing Director of oilandgaspeople.com, Kevin Forbes said: “ Oil and Gas People was set up in 2009 with a view to providing a service that connected candidates and recruiters. We have grown the business to best serve the needs of the industry and are focused on being the best at what we do. The rank gives an idea of a sites popularity with the lower the figure the more traffic a website receives. Rigzone is currently ranked 19,153rd in the UK. Figures quoted are as of the 3rd of April 2015 and Alexa stats update daily. We also expect Rigzone will see a small improvement in UK figures as traffic searching for the OilCareers site is annoyingly redirected to the American Rigzone site.
