Offshore workers’ strike ‘almost inevitable’
A UNION boss today said strike action by offshore workers was “almost inevitable” over changes to working conditions.
Jake Molloy, RMT regional organiser, said the union “will be standing shoulder to shoulder” with Unite which is set to ballot about 2,500 workers over changes.
Unite is to launch the ballot of its Offshore Contractors’ Association (OCA) members after a failure to reach an agreement with employers on changes to working conditions.
These include different shift patterns and cuts to pensions.
Mr Molloy said cutting workers was an “easy option” during the oil downturn.
He said: “If oil companies don’t climb right down from this attack strike action is almost inevitable.
