More Installations will Axe Sky TV says Union Boss
A union boss today said an oil firm that axed Sky TV on its offshore platforms will not be the last to do so.
Oil and Gas People revealed earlier in the week that Talisman Sinopec Energy UK had removed the Sky TV service from its North Sea Installations, and replaced it with Freesat and BT Sports.
RMT union regional organiser Jake Molloy said: Talisman is the first, but they will not be the last.
It is all part of a cost efficiency drive, but there are better ways to improve cost efficiency than removing welfare elements in a difficult work environment."
Spencer Buchan the CEO of media company AVC has also commented describing Talisman's move as "the tip of the iceberg" and that others could follow suit.
Oil and Gas People found the news comes as operators in Norway roll out the worlds largest offshore 4G network with a view to improve communication offshore for their workforce.
The news has generated a mixed response on social media with some workers quoted as saying people in prison are treated better while others have been more accepting saying they would rather lose Sky TV than see more job cuts.
