Maersk Oil UK Announce Job Cuts
Maersk Oil UK has entered into consultations with staff following an announcement that it’s to reduce its onshore head count, by up to 50 members of staff
The company has said that staff reductions are likely to be up to 35 members of onshore staff and a further reduction of an estimated 19 contractors.
Staff were informed of the changes at a Town Hall style meeting in Aberdeen today following an email yesterday to confirm a meeting would take place.
Those affected by the move are expected to be provided with full outplacement support and counselling.
A Maersk Oil UK spokesperson said, “This is a very difficult time for those colleagues affected, and they will be offered as much support as possible. Given the high costs of operating in the UKCS alongside the decline in oil price, in common with many other operators it’s a step the business has to take to ensure a sustainable and efficient organisation.
“Any changes will be implemented without compromising the safety of our colleagues and the reliable operation of our assets.”
The move follows the current trend of North Sea Operators struggling with the reduced oil price and rising costs of North Sea assets
Concerns have been raised about further job reduction within the North Sea as the merger of Shell and BG puts focus on job security within the sector, Enquest announced a reduction in headcount 100 staff earlier this month
