Evacuated Oil Worker Treated for Head Injuries
An injured oil worker was airlifted from a North Sea platform after falling down a stairwell.
The 58-year-old was flown to Gilbert Bain Hospital in Lerwick from Taqa’s North Cormorant platform at 9.40pm on Wednesday.
The ESS employee is understood to have suffered non-life threatening head injuries in the fall.
A Taqa spokeswoman said: “As a precaution one of our people on board the North Cormorant platform was taken to hospital after slipping and falling on the stairwell inside the accommodation block.”
The Cormorant oil field is around 100 miles north east of Shetland. North Cormorant was built in 1978, making it one of the oldest platforms in the North Sea.
It can support up to 171 workers at a time.
