European Oil and Gas capital, Aberdeen, nominated as 'most dismal town in Scotland'
Europe's Oil and Gas Capital, Aberdeen has been nominated for the unwanted title of the 'most dismal town in Scotland'.
The European Oil and Gas Capital has been nominated for the award due to bad city planning and 'Glass box architecture' that has defaced the once proud granite architecture
Urban Realm magazine has said the so-called Granite City is the running for the infamous annual Plook on a Plinth Carbuncle award, on the grounds Aberdeen is "where architecture goes to die".
The Plook on a Plinth award was established in 2000 to provoke debate.
Urban Realm editor John Glenday said: "Aberdeen has a rich granite heritage and in the Victorian era the city was built to last, sadly the same can't be said of the flimsy, ill-considered buildings going up across the city today.
"Despite its riches Aberdeen has become the poor relation of the Scottish cities."
Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeen Civic Society said mistakes had been made but they did not think the nomination was fair.
The winner will be announced early next year.
