Prosafe, a prominent offshore accommodation provider, has unveiled the initiation of a recent contract by one of its semi-submersible vessels operating in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico for an undisclosed client.
The journey towards this milestone began in September 2022 when Prosafe secured a letter of award (LOA) to facilitate accommodation and construction support in the Gulf of Mexico using the Safe Concordia unit. Subsequently, the formal contract for the assigned tasks, outlined in the LOA, was finalized the following month.
Originally, the contract was slated for a potential commencement period ranging from July to October, spanning a projected duration of 330 days, along with the inclusion of up to 6 months of optional extensions. Notably, the start window was later adjusted from July-September 2023 to a more specific timeframe: 1 August through 15 August 2023.
During the transition of the Safe Concordia unit from Curaçao to the Gulf of Mexico, the contract's initiation window was further refined to occur between 5 August and 10 August 2023. Estimated to be in line with previous communications, the combined costs for mobilization and capital expenditures were projected to amount to around $30 million.
Prosafe reported that on 9 August 2023, the Safe Concordia vessel officially embarked on the firm contract period of 330 days, with the possibility of extending for up to 6 additional months. The contract was established with a major operator in the Gulf of Mexico, marking a significant achievement for the company.
Reese McNeel, serving as Prosafe's interim CEO, shared his satisfaction, stating: "Prosafe is delighted with the successful execution of upgrades and preparations on the Safe Concordia, enabling the vessel to commence the contract as planned. I have full confidence in the vessel and its crew to deliver top-tier performance, ensuring safe and efficient operations throughout the contract's duration."
The Safe Concordia vessel is classified as a DP2 semi-submersible ASV, offering 389 (461 with ALQ) beds for operations worldwide, except in Norway. Constructed at the Keppel FELS shipyard in Singapore, the vessel was delivered in March 2005, with a subsequent upgrade completed in July 2015.
