Black Sea Oil & Gas SA (BSOG) recently wrapped up the first scheduled maintenance of the Midia Gas Development (MGD) project facilities in the Black Sea. Over three days, the onshore gas treatment plant (GTP) and the Ana Wellhead platform, located 68 miles (110 kilometers) off the Romanian coast, underwent comprehensive inspections, cleaning, and crucial equipment maintenance, as detailed in a press release by BSOG on Monday. Gas production from the Midia fields resumed on October 26 following the successful turnaround.
Notably, BSOG emphasized that the maintenance work included several enhancements to bolster the resilience and dependability of the MGD production assets. The company efficiently mobilized its onshore resources at the GTP site near Vadu and offshore at the Ana Wellhead platform for the operation, demonstrating a dedication to maintaining a flawless safety record with zero lost time injuries (LTIs) since the project's construction commencement, according to BSOG CEO Mark Beacom.
The MGD project marks a significant milestone for Romania, serving as the country's first new offshore gas development in over three decades. The current gas production, exceeding 35.31 billion cubic feet (1 billion cubic meters) annually, caters to approximately 12 percent of Romania's gas requirements, the release stated.
The MGD project comprises the Ana and Doina gas fields, boasting estimated resources of around 353.15 billion cubic feet (10 billion cubic meters). The project incorporates a subsea gas production system over the Doina well, connected via a pipeline to an unmanned production platform situated over the Ana field. The processed gas is ultimately delivered to the National Transmission System operated by Transgaz.
BSOG, a Romania-based energy company, is owned by Carlyle International Energy Partners and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Aligning with the European Union's goal of achieving zero emissions by 2050, the company focuses on offshore gas resource development, positioning natural gas as a transitional fuel and facilitating essential infrastructure for the advancement of green energy projects. As the operator with a 70 percent interest, BSOG oversees the XV Midia Shallow Concession, encompassing the Ana and Doina gas fields. The company's partners in this venture include Petro Ventures Resources SRL with a 20 percent interest and Gas Plus Dacia SRL with a 10 percent interest. Petro Ventures is a private investment group, while Gas Plus is a prominent natural gas producer in Italy, engaging in various sectors of the natural gas industry.
