Borr Drilling, the offshore drilling contractor, has announced the commencement of drilling operations in Saudi Arabia by one of its premium jack-up rigs. The rig, formerly known as Frigg, was delivered after undergoing a six-month reactivation and schedule G upgrade project at Ocean Oilfield's shipyard in Hamriyah Sharjah, UAE. It was initially named Arabia III and was expected to start operations in the Middle East in the third quarter of 2023.
This development follows a contract awarded to the undisclosed company for the Frigg jack-up rig in December 2022. The five-year contract for work in the Middle East includes extension options and has an estimated total contract value of $282 million, including the mobilization fee.
The Frigg jack-up rig, built in 2013, is designed as a KFELS Super A Class rig, capable of operating in water depths of up to 400 feet and achieving a maximum drilling depth of 35,000 feet.
Borr Drilling expressed its enthusiasm for the project's successful execution and its commitment to its customer. The company cited the ongoing upcycle in the offshore drilling market and strong demand for jack-up rigs as positive factors. Additionally, Borr Drilling is actively engaged in discussions with Seatrium (formerly Keppel) to expedite the delivery of its rigs Vale and Var to August and November 2024, respectively, in response to market demand.
