As Hydrogen production, distribution and equipment manufacturing continues to scale up, cost is predicted to fall by up to 50% by 2030. With the prospect of low-carbon cost competitiveness closer than many thought, it’s crucial that industry mobilized to deliver upon this opportunity.
“Today, there is a wide international consensus that hydrogen energy solutions are needed to deploy at scale if we are serious with the Energy Transition,” noted Pierre-Etienne Franc, VP of Hydrogen Energy at Air Liquide and Hydrogen Council Co-Secretary. “Potential for cost competitiveness has been reaffirmed recently with our latest McKinsey / Hydrogen Council cost road map report.”
“Scale & speed are the key words for rapid and efficient cost competitive play. For this to happen, policy makers are expected to move with clear level playing field regulations for low-carbon hydrogen use in industry and to support upstream production & downstream infrastructure deployment in transport. As a vector for a more independent, resilient and low-carbon energy system, hydrogen has a key role to play in the post-covid era.”
