Aussie & Kiwi companies come to Aberdeen to lure Oil & Gas employees Down Under

On November 16th Aberdeen will host a one-day recruitment Expo for those who have had enough of the Scottish weather and want to work in sunnier climes.
A selection of Australian companies and state governments are making the trip to help satisfy the huge demand for workers that Australia’s booming resources sector needs.
In contrast to the worsening economic conditions that prevail in the UK, potential migrants from the resources and engineering sectors now stand poised to capitalise on their career skills as never before.
In Australia, growing skills shortages have driven salaries to an average of £1,400 per week (more than double the national average). A new landmark report from the ANZ Bank has forecast that Australia’s current resources boom is capable of generating £318 billion in exports over the next 20 years, creating more than 750,000 jobs!
Massive investment means progressive career opportunities
The burgeoning Australian oil and gas investment agenda has never looked better, in particular across the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Coal Bed Methane sectors. More than half the world’s planned additions to LNG capacity are under construction here, with the grand total of resources projects in progress at the end of June 2011 valued at £236 billion.
Making the move easy at the Opportunities Overseas Expo
The Opportunities Overseas Expo is the only event of its type to target the energy and resources sectors, matching skilled professionals with leading employers and recruiters in their field. It provides a ‘one-stop-shop’ for migration and job opportunities.
Employers at the Expo will be detailing exciting new projects that are currently underway in Australia & New Zealand and highlighting where the skills shortages and job opportunities lie. They’ll explain how they can assist with visa and relocation costs and bring Expo visitors up to date on the latest industry techniques in their field of expertise.
A team of licensed immigration advisers and migration specialists will be on hand to help visitors with visa and migration questions. Also present are Australian banks, shipping companies and other migration services designed to make it easy to move Down Under.
Event General Manager, Spencer Hawkes, says: “Moving to Australia is nothing new to Scots. The difference is that 200 years ago it took six months by sail and half the people died on the journey. These days it’s a couple of flights, a few movies, a glass of chardonnay and, hey presto, you’re on the beach!”
