Job Description

Our client is an international energy services company operating in engineering & production facilities, well support and gas turbine services. Employing over 28,000 personnel worldwide they operate in 50 countries

As Assistant/Trainee Cost Engineer your main responsibilities will include

Understand the corporate and contract specific cost procedures and carry out all work in accordance with these.
Study and understand all relevant project documents relating to the cost management of allocated project(s).
Assisting in the review of cost commitment and expenditure information (for all cost elements), for input to the computerised cost control and reporting system on a weekly basis and ensuring that all information received is accurate and correctly input.
Assisting in the production of regular cost reports.
Maintaining comprehensive accessible registers of financial approvals, variations and change orders.
Review project manhours and the allocation of manhours in conjunction with planning on a weekly basis.
Maintain rates within Computerised Cost System.
Maintain a good working knowledge of relevant corporate cost software.
Participate in schedule risk analysis as required
Ensure that the Corporate and Project Specific Change Control procedures are being adhered to.
Assist Cost Department on reporting how the change control effort is impacting on the project
And any other duties appropriate to this position

Education & Qualifications:
A-Levels or equivalent experience

Specific Training / Specialist Skills:
Good general understanding of Cost Management, Estimating and Change Control

Experience:
High degree of computer literacy

    Participate in management and development of the D&C department through involvement in improvement of processes, procedures and systems.
    Provide Peer Review and Operational support as required to other Company Projects.
    Act as coach and mentor for Junior Engineers

    Our client, an aspiring nuclear operator, are developing up to 4.2GW of new nuclear power generation capacity at a site in North Wales. The technology for the new nuclear power plants will be an Advanced Boiling Water Reactor (ABWR) with a consortium leading the construction of the new nuclear plant, working for the nuclear operator as its EPC contractor.

    A second site in Gloucestershire is also part of this multi-billion pound new build programme, although the bulk of work will be for the site in North Wales to begin with. Our client are at an early stage of the project and programme lifecycle. We are looking for talented engineers that aspire to develop their respective careers within nuclear power, a sector which will continue to grow within the UK for the foreseeable future.

    Our client are offering a great opportunity with stability and longevity, but also a chance to help shape Britain's nuclear power generation sector with ABWR technology - a first for the UK.

    - Act as a dedicated control and protection systems engineer within company's Engineering Directorate.

    - Support the Head of Control and Protection Systems on a range of issues.

    - Work with other disciplines and groups within the Engineering Directorate and company organisation to ensure that interfaces are adequately managed and coordinated.

    - Provide support to the development and maintenance of a Basis of Design for the Wylfa and Oldbury developments.

    - Work with suppliers / framework partners to ensure that requirements are clearly defined and understood, work is being delivered to acceptable standards and adequately reviewed prior to acceptance by company.

    Skills & Experience

    - A track record of success and achievement demonstrated within relevant roles.

    - Evidence of delivering work to deadlines and quality standards.

    - A relevant engineering qualification to degree level and chartered engineer status (membership of an associated professional institution is preferable).

    - Significant experience in related works (i.e. civil nuclear engineering or an equivalent, highly regulated industry).

    - Significant experience across a broad range of civil nuclear power plant engineering issues.

    - Previous experience in the design/layout and maintenance of nuclear/conventional power control systems and components (including balance of plant).

    - Knowledge of national and international nuclear/conventional power plant control and instrumentation system codes and standards.

    - Knowledge of the additional requirements and regulatory aspects/considerations associated with civil nuclear work and sites.

    - Experience in delivering complex engineering and design projects to deadlines

    - Good team working skills, able to work with a wide range of other engineering and business disciplines inside and outside company.

    - Able to provide guidance and support to other members of the team.

    - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

    - Ability to interface successfully with a perse range of internal and external stakeholders.
