Job Description


• Supervising and participating in the offshore installation/maintenance of controls equipment.

• Whilst on shore, supporting the workshop activity of the Aberdeen controls group, tasks will include maintaining, servicing, preparing and shipping controls equipment

• Adhering to company policy and procedures, using risk mitigation tools to ensure all tasks are carried out safely and effectively.

• Familiarising yourself before departure, as far as practically possible, with applicable procedures and work instructions for field service work.

• Maintaining a full traceable report of field service work, and reporting same as instructed.

• Reporting of any issues/ideas for improvement to supervisor in a timely manner.

• Liaising with supervisor to ensure a pro-active and productive approach to workshop activity.

    - The Pipe Lay Technician is responsible for the mechanical, hydraulic and electrical maintenance of vessel's reels, lay tower, and crane's mechanical and electrical systems to include: components, manifolds, or wiring on all pipe lay equipment essential to reeled pipeline installation and the subsea construction equipment involved.

    - Ensure that all operations are conducted according to regulatory, company and client-specific requirements, for quality of the work and safety on site.

    - Familiarity and adherence with laws, regulations, company and project specific policies and procedures for all worksites including: Vessels, Marine Bases and offices.

    - Take immediate steps to resolve any issues or concerns as related to the health, safety and environment for crew, clients and/or guests.

    - Fully participate and cooperate in open and honest dialogs for incident and or accident investigations.

    - Inpidual must have all required certifications, training, deemed competent and have authorization to perform their required job tasks and duties.

    - Participate in HSSE inspections and ensure that a healthy and safe work environment is maintained at all times.

    - Effective communication with management, colleagues, clients and guests, to assure compliance with updated and accurate information on changes to HSSE policies, procedures and or job tasks.

    - Knowledge of offshore pipe lay and tensioner operations and operating functions of the programmable logic controls that is running equipment.

    - Knowledge of company LAG policy and procedure to include LAG inspection

    - Ability to work safely both at heights and over the side

    - Knowledge of deck equipment, refueling operations and hazards associated.

    - Knowledge and ability to work lock out tag out system.

    Essential Functions

    - Operation of Pipe Lay systems to include maintenance , repair and troubleshooting of:-

    - Reel operations (spooling and pipe Lay).

    - Tensioner operation, maintenance and track pad removal/installation.

    - Lubrication of pipe lay equipment.

    - Knowledge of lay system panel control operations.

    - Knowledge of tower operations (spooling and pipe lay)

    - Ability to set pipe straightener.

    - Trouble shoot equipment problems.

    - Reel System operation (RS3, RS2, or similar portable reel / umbilical lay systems).

    - Arrange and conduct regular HSSEQ inspections of electrical machinery and power management systems and power management spaces.

    - Coordination of work permits within his area of jurisdiction {this may be in consultation with the Chief Engineer / Master / Chief Officer}.

    - Must have experience responsible for maintenance and repair of offshore pipe lay equipment or for equipment with similar characteristics.

    - Ability to effectively supervise technician operator team to maintain and operate pipe lay systems and equipment.

    This is a contract position.
